About seventy lighthouse keepers and lightship crewmen, descendants of keepers and crewmen, and WLA members gathered June 26th at Silverdale Beach Hotel for the first-ever WLA Lighthouse Keepers Reunion. The event included a buffet lunch, a commemorative booklet and patch, and a fabulous program about lightkeeping by Nova Scotia’s Chris Mills. Following the reunion, Chris Mills remained in our area for three days and visited eleven lighthouses in Washington. He took many photos of what we at WLA are jokingly calling “The Chris Mills Whirlwind Lighthouse Tour.” We covered many miles and are grateful for the kindnesses of docents and volunteers at numerous lighthouses. "Run for the Light!" On August 8, 2009, WLA hosted its 4th annual Fun Run/Walk in Westport. The scenic course started and finished at the historic Westport Maritime Museum over-looking Grays Harbor. 151 runners and walkers traveled the paved Westport Dune Trail along the Pacific Ocean through the State Parks. The unique course passed the 1898 Grays Harbor Lighthouse and finished next to the museum lens exhibit building – home of the magnificent 1st Order Destruction Island Lighthouse Lens. Special thanks to all participants and volunteers who make this event a reality. We look forward to you joining us for the 5th edition of our event, scheduled for Saturday, August 14, 2010.
